You probably think of the Dodge Charger when you think about 1971 cars. The 1971 Dodge Charger was redesigned with a 115-inch wheelbase, six coupes and three hardtop series, and a more spacious interior than the Ford Torino or Chevy Chevelle. Basic models came in slant six and 318ci engines. You could also choose the Hemi option. The SE and 500 trims were now known as the SE and 500. They included additional features such as extra sound insulation, a three-speed manual transmission, a carpeted trunk and wood-grain polymer.

The Chrysler lineup had four-door sedans, hardtops, and wagons by 1971. Every car in the line had a sleek fuselage and the C body architecture. There were also improvements in rear footroom and the installation of automatic headlights. Many models were equipped with tilt steering and automatic headlights. Chrysler introduced automatic transmissions to make driving easier.

Chrysler's 1971 cars included automatic temperature control

The Chrysler Imperial's 1967 model year saw the introduction of automatic temperature control. Although the Chrysler Imperial was the only car of its kind to offer this feature at the time, all other models offered it on their option list. The feature was also standard on the Ford Thunderbird. Automatic climate control was made available to even the cheapest cars in the 1970s. This feature was found in the best cars of that era, and the sidebar below lists some of the most popular models.

Ford's 1971 Mustang Mach 1 had part-throttle downshift

The Mustang Mach I had an unusual feature when it was first released. Ford tested the part throttle downshift on the racetrack. Part-throttle Downshifting, which is part of the six-speed transmission allows you to accelerate during an upward shift. Although it isn't available on the Mustang GT this feature was added to Mach 1.

Dodge's 1971 cars featured a modified power steering system to improve road feel

The Charger, a new body style introduced by the company in 1971, was its first. This car had been based on the Coronet since 1970, but its sales were disappointing. It was a four-door car, with only the 318 and 6 engines. The Dodge Coronet was discontinued and replaced by the Charger, a four-door sedan and wagon. The Charger's popularity grew after it was redesigned for the 1971 model year.

1971 GM cars featured Torsion-Quiet Ride

GM's Torsion-Quiet Ride system was introduced in 1971. It was intended to reduce noise, vibration and stiffness by isolating the leaf springs from their subframe. The system was not perfect, particularly when cornering. Mopar expert Rick Ehrenberg recommends retrofitting early suspension parts to improve performance and reduce noise. What are the Torsion-Quiet Ride's benefits?

How To

How to correctly diagnose your vehicle for repairs

First, look at the symptoms of your car to determine if it needs repair. You can then follow these steps for a proper diagnosis of your vehicle.

  1. Check engine lights. The dashboard light indicators, including the engine light, oil pressure gauge, battery light indicator, coolant temperature gauge and RPM gauge, should be checked. You may have a problem with your vehicle if any of the indicators are flashing for more than a few days.
  2. Examine the treads of the tires. Tire wear can lead to problems in handling and brake performance. Also, inspect the treads of your wheels. They should look clean and be smooth. The best way to do this is to remove the wheels and take them off. Use a flashlight to see how well the treads are worn.
  3. Monitor the level and consistency of your brake fluid. You must always monitor the level of your brake fluid. This helps ensure that your brakes operate properly. If the brake fluid level is low, your brakes might fail when you apply pressure to them.
  4. The suspension system should be tested. It is common for vehicles to have a suspension system which absorbs shocks or vibrations. This suspension system provides greater control and smoother acceleration and deceleration. If your vehicle has a suspension problem, it might feel wobbly or shake uncontrollably. Try putting some weight on your front or rear axle to determine if you have a suspension problem.
  5. Examine the steering column. The steering column is used to link the steering wheel with the rest of vehicle's components. Steering columns can be damaged by accidents. Replace it if your steering column feels loose or unsteady.
  6. Pay close attention to the exhaust tube. The exhaust pipes transport gases from the combustion chamber to outside. Exhaust pipes that are cracked or leaking can allow harmful fumes to enter your cabin. Also, if your tailpipe is bent, you should fix it immediately.
  7. Look under the hood. Take a look underneath the hood to find any strange or unusual items. Fluids could be leaking from your engine. If you smell something strange coming from your engine compartment you should call a professional technician.
  8. It is important to inspect the air filter. Your vehicle's air filter collects dust and debris from the outside environment. A dirty filter can lead to a poor vehicle's performance. Replace your air filter regularly.
  9. The fan belt should be checked. The fan belt is the link between the engine and the transmission. If the fanbel breaks, your engine won't turn. It is very easy to replace your belt. You will need a screwdriver, pliers and a pair of pliers.
  10. The radiator hose and hoses should be checked. The radiator hose carries water from the radiator to the engine. It can cause hot liquid to leak onto the engine if it is damaged or cracked. Repairing the hose is easy with a pair of needlenose pliers or a small wire brush.
  11. Check the windshield wipers. Windshield wipers use electricity to wipe away rain and snow. If they stop working, streaks could be left on your glass. You can fix the problem by changing the washer fluid.
  12. Check the battery cables. Batteries provide power to electrical systems inside your car. Always disconnect the negative wire before you replace batteries. Failure to do so can damage your alternator.
  13. Check the headlights. Headlights are used to illuminate the road ahead. Bad visibility can be caused by headlights that don't work correctly. Inspect the bulbs for signs of burnt out.
  14. Always check your lights. The lights are there to warn other drivers if they approach you at night. It could cause distraction and even lead to an accident if it doesn't work.
  15. Inspect your brakes. Brakes will reduce the speed of your car in case of an accident. You could lose control of the car and cause a crash if they don't work properly.
  16. Change the oil. The oilkeeps your engine lubricated. It helps prevent metal parts from wearing out too quickly. It is recommended that the oil be changed every other month.
